10 Simple Things You Can Do To Save the Earth

On this Earth Day 2010, here are a few things you can do to save the planet:

1. Change your light bulbs. Yes, compact fluorescent bulbs costs more, but they last longer, bring savings on your monthly utility bill, and will save 150 lbs of carbon dioxide per year. And they look kind of funky and cool.

2. Take a walk, a bike ride, or take the bus. Every mile that you don’t drive saves one lb of carbon dioxide. I have started taking the bus any time that my destination is within a convenient ride’s distance.

3. You can save 2,400 lbs of carbon dioxide per year by recycling half of your household waste. Recycling still takes energy though. The best policy is to avoid the use of plastics at all.

4. Keep your tires properly inflated. It will save you gas, and every gallon of gas saved prevents 20 lbs. of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the atmosphere.

5. Use cold or warm water to wash your clothes.

6. You can save up to 2,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide by moving your household thermostat up 2 degrees in summer and down 2 degrees in winter.

7. Plant a tree. Over its lifetime, it will absorb 1 ton of carbon dioxide.

8. Turn off electronic devices and unplug chargers when you are not using them.

9. Buy local vegetables and food products. The average food product has to travel over 1,500 miles on roads.

10. Pray for the planet.
